Social Media, as defined by Wikipedia, “is content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies” and “has become extremely popular because it allows people to connect in the online world to form relationships for personal and business.”
Now, let’s focus on the “and business” part of that sentence. A lot of our clients are hesitant about using social media as a marketing tactic for several reasons. They’re intimidated. They don’t want to get “sucked in” spending hours doing nothing productive. They wonder how long it will stick around. Our answer is yes, it is time consuming and overwhelming. We encourage our clients to be a part of the movement and create some buzz around their brands. Set up a Fan Page for your business on Facebook, start Twittering, take pictures of your office and post them on Flickr. People will love interacting with you. Take it from Benjamin Franklin (who would have been a great blogger, by the way), “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
